It’s with crippling hangover, and the vague recollection of busting yet more ill-advised moves on the dance floor, that one writes: the latest and greatest incarnation of Asian-infused LUCKY YU is fabulous beyond belief bitches.

We arrive with MUCH excitement, safe in the knowledge that we already love the food, along with our hosts. But elevating one’s confidence levels yet higher, there’s also an incredibly lush collection of cheeky cocktails for us to TOTS indulge in.
For what was once Leith Walk’s smallest restaurant, sans license of liquor, is NOW: a dazzling star of Broughton Street, about sixteen times the size, complete with stylish bar, as well as private dining for your next sexy party.
Though before we reveal just how much we can devour at one sitting, it has to be said the aesthetic and atmosphere are equally delicious. From an exterior bathed in pink neon light, to the stylish understatement within, this dazzling venue positively screams: you’re about to have a seriously good night.

Soon we’re doing just that, throwing back a One Inch Punch – a super smooth mix of citrus, bitters, amaro montenegro & a shedload of rum. Boasting lots of depth, and a splash of sweetness, we’re awarding it with an extremely loud: ENCORE!!
Naturally, our first bottle of bubbles has also arrived, along with the sumptuous BBQ pork belly & crunchy chilli peanut sauce [ a wonderful marriage of savoury + sweet ] and a veritable mountain of gyoza.

While Venison & Black Garlic is heavenly, somehow Kimchi & Sweet Potato is even more tantalising. As for the fiery dipping sauce, expect to cry out “HELP I’M ON FIRE” then happily extinguish the flames with a glass of crémant.
Which brings us to DING-DING Round 2 – a smorgasbord of Charred Corn Ribs with miso butter, Korean BBQ Beef Short Rib Yakitori, and a super refreshing Yuzu Glazed Salmon Teppanyaki with horseradish & lime leaf. All utterly life-affirming.
We couldn’t eat another bite, we SO lie, before diving into the Crispy Chicken Wings, followed by Lucky Yu’s legendary Bao buns with sticky five spice brisket, kimchi & crispy onion. JUST WOW!

While staff and patrons applaud our BITCHES VERSUS FOOD mantra, even they are aghast as we’re still able to squeeze in the lush Dark Chocolate & Sesame Delice plus an extremely naughty bottle of cab sav.
Our motivation – aside from a complete lack of self-control – to toast this magnificent reinvention of LUCKY YU which truly gets EVERYTHING right. CIN CIN! Next stop: the dance floor …
