Pushing the boundaries of artistic expression, while tossing back cheeky cocktails, is not only the raison d’être of a social bitch, it’s also the very thinking behind the brand new, rather magnificent CARTE BLANCHE!

Part of the Voodoo Rooms family, this stylish mash-up of art-gallery and cocktail bar offers artists “carte blanche” to recreate the space, and exhibit their work commission-free. Meanwhile the drinks are designed to reflect the themes.

So, you’re not just staring at art, and trying to stutter something insightful. You’re eating and drinking it too, with music and mother-f**king exuberance. Seriously, what could BE more fabulous?

These bitches arrive looking delicious, but horribly hangover [ red wine & dancing MAY be involved ] but are soon restored, then wowed by the stunning makeover of what was once Voodoo’s French Quarter.

While we miss the lighty-up Saturday-Night-Fever dance floor, we LOVE  this inspired concept. Kudos to GM Lachlan Rooney, whose passion and absolute attention to detail is utterly breathtaking.

Soon after insisting we drink endless fizz – well alright then, rude not to  – he explains the design of this beautiful space features many an artistic nod of its own:

The seams of the leather seating are cut at a precise angle of 59 degrees, as a tribute to artist Alan Kaprow: who in 1959 wowed New York with his original concept of truly immersive art.

Meanwhile the shelves behind the bar follow the Fibonacci sequence – a mathematical algorithm that occurs in nature – in everything from the dimensions of a flower to spiral galaxies – and is utterly pleasing to both the brain and the eye.

Even more astounding, Lachlan’s applied this formula to the his lush 11:23 cocktail [ containing a gorgeous mix of rose gin & vermouth ] though even he concedes it’s almost “f**king impossible” to get right.

Perhaps somewhere on the spectrum between genius and madman, Lachlan’s parting words are a challenge for us to spot the other artistic easter eggs in the room. “Can’t wait!” we fib ever so slightly.

Instead, we’re making our way through even more fizz, three bottles of vinho verde, and as many of the sumptuous cocktails as possible. Guess you could say we’re artists too … piss artists, boom boom bitches!
